Bosch and BMW are now offering the BMW i DC fast charger in North America. The companies will supply and install the BMW i DC Fast Charger for North American BMW i Centers and authorized partners, starting in August 2014. Using the SAE Combo 1 connector, the BMW i DC Fast Charger will charge a BMW i3 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes and is also compatible with other electric vehicles (EVs) using the SAE Combo 1 inlet. Several major automakers, including BMW have committed to adopting the SAE Combo 1 DC Fast Charge connector standard. The BMW i DC Fast Chargers will also be ChargePoint-networked, allowing BMW and non-BMW electric vehicle drivers alike to access the stations with a ChargePoint or ChargeNow card for a quick charge. Polaris GEM has introduced a new electric low-speed vehicle (LSV) in its 2015 line-up. New for 2015, Polaris GEM is pleased to offer its customers the eM1400 LSV which is street legal on most city streets with posted speed limits of 35 mph or less. Siemens is now offering solar microinverters rated for 215 and 250 watt AC output with Integrated Ground technology (IG). The M250 IG microinverter extends the variety of photovoltaic (PV) modules with which the microinverter can now be used to. The IG feature enhances the installation experience by reducing the install time by eliminating the need to install a ground electrode conductor (GEC). Siemens microinverters are installed beneath each solar module and convert DC power to AC power. They send AC power to the installation’s electrical panel (site load center) and transmits performance data to the envoy. Each microinverter is individually connected to one PV module in the array. This configuration means that an individual maximum peak power point tracker (MPPT) controls each PV module. This ensures that the maximum power available from each PV module is exported to the utility grid regardless of the performance of the other PV modules in the array. Siemens Microinverters
Proterra has launched its second generation all-electric bus, the Proterra Solution. The company’s first 40 foot model, weighs less than any other transit bus available today and offers the highest fuel efficiency on the market. The model also features a fast-charge system that keeps the bus on the road with no requirement to take them out of service for long charging periods, one-step access for ease-of-maintenance and industry-leading ergonomics. Proterra is the only manufacturer with EV transit buses in actual revenue service anywhere in the United States. Cree has introduced a series of LED T8 replacement tubes that gives commercial lighting users reasons to switch to LED lighting and stop using linear fluorescent tubes. The Cree LED T8 Series offers 30 percent energy savings and near-universal driver compatibility. The Cree LED T8 Series is eligible for utility rebates, comes with a five-year warranty, and has a suggested retail price of $30. The Cree LED T8 Series delivers both 3500K and 4000K color temperatures. Its oval shaped design allows for more uplight than other LED replacement lamps, creating more uniform light output during its 50,000-hour lifetime. AEG Power Solutions has launched a new wireless battery cell control system, MoniStore-SC.BCCS, targeting battery energy storage applications. Battery storage systems are being used for grid support and grid building in typical on- and off-grid applications, often in conjunction with intermittent renewable energy systems. The new wireless battery cell control system is for operation with conventional batteries. The battery sensor is simply connected to the batteries' negative pole. It continuously monitors the functionality of the individual battery cells by measuring cell voltage and temperature. The wireless sensors transmit all relevant parameters via the Zigbee protocol to a receiver module which transfers the data to an evaluation unit. MoniStore monitors more 300 cells connected in series. No complex cabling. Each cell provides the power supply for its sensor. The sensors will mainly be used in large battery energy storage systems. Boulder Wind Power (BWP) has expanded its generator and power conversion portfolio for geared and direct drive wind turbines. Among the new offerings is the "Ultra Low Speed" generator category designed for onshore, low-wind speed sites where noise constraints limit aerodynamic rotor tip speed and, ultimately, the aerodynamic rotor diameter. BWP's Ultra Low Speed generators and their reduced RPM can help wind turbine manufacturers expand the swept area at these sites, and increase energy production by 5-15 percent – all while staying within noise constraints. General Electric has launched its advanced technology Space Frame Tower for wind turbines. The five-legged enclosed lattice tower from GE enables towers up to 139 meters to be built more cost-effectively in never before accessible locations, using a logistics-friendly model of standard shipping methods and on-site assembly: The Tower can be shipped on standard trucks and ocean vessels. The lattice tower is assembled at wind farm locations and then wrapped in an architectural fabric to provide familiar solid structural aesthetics. The tower improves serviceability with increased space down-tower, maintenance-free bolting system and custom methods and fixtures for efficient installation and dismantling. Additional down-tower space allows for storage within the turbine for ease in maintenance, site organization and balance of plant. Parts manufacturing can be automated with the space frame tower to optimize quality control of the structure. Walmart has launched Great Value LED lightbulbs for less than $10 in all U.S. stores. The new line will be available exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide and Walmart.com. LEDs are 80 percent more efficient, emit 40 percent less heat and last 25 times longer. By replacing all of the lightbulbs in their homes with energy-efficient LEDs, customers can save an average of $129 per year. Walmart's new Great Value line includes 26 LED lightbulb types, including a non-dimmable 60-watt equivalent LED that will retail for $8.88; a Great Value dimmable 60-watt equivalent LED for $9.88; a Great Value Indoor flood non-dimmable 65-watt equivalent LED for $14.88; and a Great Value indoor flood Dimmable 65-watt equivalent for $15.88. Encell Technology has introduced the Atlas 160 Nickel-Iron battery; a 160 Ampere-hour, front-terminal, 12 volt rechargeable battery. This product is designed to replace valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries in microgrid energy storage applications. Microgrid installations, consisting of a standby generator and solar energy panels, are commonly used to ensure continuous, reliable power in environments where utility power is erratic. Batteries in this application are frequently cycled and may undergo deep-discharge cycles. Battery life of VRLAs is severely reduced by sustained deep-discharge cycles. Typical specifications show reduction from over 5,000 cycles at 20 percent discharge to just over 500 cycles at 80% discharge. In contrast, the Encell Atlas 160 NiFe cycle life under similar deep-discharge operating environments approaches 9,000 cycles. Float charge battery life of the Atlas 160 is up to 20 years. Ampair, UK's oldest wind turbine manufacturer has returned to 6kW wind turbine market with the relaunch of its re-launch of its Ampair 6000. The Ampair 6000’s revised remote monitoring system includes over 20 system status signals such as temperature, voltage, frequency and weather sensors; the system also allows new firmware to be uploaded to the turbine to modify performance characteristics. The monitoring system can be configured to send alerts to nominated personnel if there is a suspected problem with the unit or if an extreme weather event has taken place. The Ampair 6000 is available in 220/240V single phase and 380/415V three phase grid-connected versions, and the 48V battery ‘micro grid’ version which is suitable for off-grid applications.
